“Buen Vivir”

Building a form of public coexistence, in diversity and in harmony with nature, to achieve the good way of living.

Our Beehive Timber - Anatolian Cedar & Pine

When looking to take up beekeeping we noticed that, in an industry that is very ecologically friendly, we struggled to find a sustainably-sourced beehive to look after our furry friends…and so our journey began 🐝!

Now we have sourced high-quality National Beehives from Anatolian Cedar and Pine Forests within the Turkish National Reforestation Programme - a national drive that ensures 50 million new Cedar trees are planted every year to ensure the long-term health and regeneration of the forests!

The son of a lumberjack, our beehive supplier knows his timber. As a young boy looking after livestock across the Taurus Mountain range in Turkey, he discovered the qualities of how amazingly strong, resilient and fragrant the Anatolian cedar tree is (official name is ‘Cedrus libani’). He couldn’t recommend it more highly -once you smell it we know you will agree - and for nature geeks like us, there is also great historical and national significance of the Cedrus Libani from all over the Eastern Mediterranean basin!

We believe that not only have we sourced a market-leading National Beehive, we’ve managed to do it sustainably, giving you a double-shot of altruism to your beekeeping adventure 😊

Our Bamboo Tooling & Equipment

Sustainability experts nearly universally agree bamboo is one of the best eco-friendly building materials on the planet. Its rate of self-generation is second-to-none, with some species growing up to 1 metre within 24 hour periods.

On top of this, due to its high strength-to-weight ratio and exceptional durability, Bamboo makes for great materials for our tools — it has greater compressive strength than brick or concrete — meaning it can sustain heavy use over a long period of time!

We make sure all our bamboo products are harvested responsibly from sustainably managed farms with traceability back to source.

One drawback of bamboo is that it doesn’t grow in Europe naturally, however, because of its lightweight nature it is less energy intensive to transport than many other materials of comparable durability.

Our Furniture - FSC Timber Only here!

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) mission is to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests.

Their vision is to ensure the world’s forests meet the social, ecological, and economic rights and needs of the present generation without compromising those of future generations - very similar to the ‘buen vivir’ ethos we adopt here at TSB!

We guarantee that all timber sourced for our furniture is from FSC approved suppliers.

Our Concrete Worktops - BES 6001

Much like our timber, we only use concrete materials that meet the BES 6001 standard to ensure it sustainable sourced.

The standard describes a framework for the organisational governance, supply chain management and environmental and social aspects that must be addressed in order to ensure the responsible sourcing of construction products.

It also reduces carbon footprint through transport - the average delivery distance for all concrete in the UK is 46km.

All our Concrete Worktop are finished with Food Grade Sealer.

Our Eco-Friendly Cork

The Sustainable Beekeeper produce high-quality and sustainable beekeeping equipment at an affordable price. We are always on the lookout to extend our product range to include sustainably sourced, environmentally friendly and, where possible, locally manufactured produce - by the community, for the community.

We believe that making the world a better place little by little doesn’t have to cost the earth - in fact it should be about saving it.

We want to educate, learn and share all our experiences within the community. It gives us a sense of purpose and allows us to focus on mastering skills. Everybody is capable of beekeeping, we will show you just how rewarding it can be.
